Course for Teachers
The Dance Summer School in Ireland is not only for young people and students, the door of our event is also open to dance teachers who are looking for opportunities to observe classes led by experienced and accomplished faculty and to participate in the lessons if they wish.
Whether you are seeking to deepen your knowledge of dance technique, explore new teaching methodologies, or revisit your class management, our course has something for everybody. The course is a space where teachers can invest in their own growth, learning, and development as an educator.
Enhance Your Teaching
The Dance Summer School offers a diverse range of classes and masterclasses designed to expand your skill set.
Benefit from gaining practical tools and strategies you can immediately implement in your own studio.
Inspire Your Students
Attending The Dance Summer School isn’t just a gift to yourself, it’s a gift for your students too.
When you return to your studio, you’ll bring back new knowledge, new techniques, and fresh energy to share with your students. You’ll be able to inspire them with new ideas and approaches, elevating the overall experience of your classes.
Refine Your Personal Dance Practice
As a teacher, it's easy to put your personal dance practice on the back burner. At The Dance Summer School, you will have the opportunity to reconnect with your own dancing, whether it’s through technique classes, improvisation, or performance-based workshops. Reignite the spark that originally drew you to dance and experience the joy of dancing just for you.
In addition to being able to observe or attend any class level, each day we run a masterclass focused on teaching and discussing technical and artistic elements and/or different points of interest for a teacher's professional development.
A brief example of a masterclass is on the use of arms:
Our teacher will work on improving this critical element in dance, whether it is in a jazz or classical style. We will discuss the technical placement, movement, and artistic and dynamic qualities.
Themes included in previous summer schools are:
Teaching Jazz to Young Children
The importance of musicality, dynamics and style when teaching Jazz to young children.
Ideas for Choreography
Inspiring new ways to create choreography through practical tasks and improvisation.
Practical Advice in Training male dancers
Understanding the fundamental differences in teaching male presenting dancers, and how to bring out the best in them.
Teachers are also welcome to bring their students to The Dance Summer School for an exciting and enriching experience for all.
At the course you will have the chance to watch your students grow as they take on new challenges. You will be there to cheer them on, and the confidence they build will undoubtedly enhance their dancing on their return to your studio.
In addition to this, there is a valuable experience that lies in the deeper connection formed by spending time with them away from home, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
What to expect
While you are enjoying the course alongside your students, our attentive chaperones will be there to look after them. We oversee all activities, meals, breaks, and overnight, ensuring that support is always on hand whenever your students need it. You can feel confident knowing that they are in safe and caring hands throughout their time with us.
We also want to recognise the time and effort invested in organising your students to attend the course, so there are discounts available for teachers who bring a group.
Furthermore, we are delighted to offer the opportunity for you to obtain advice for the preparation of the ISTD DDE, Licentiate or Fellowship examinations or to access a tailored ISTD syllabus revision (Ballet, Modern or Tap) with our amazing faculty, who are Senior ISTD Examiners and Syllabus creators.
