audition experience & preparation for professional colleges

In addition to the daily lessons, there will be mock auditions and a meeting between the pupils with intermediate/advanced profiles and those with vocational aspirations and our Faculty.

The students will have the opportunity to learn about dance and performing arts as a career, receiving information and experiences on life as a professional artist or dance teacher.

They will have the opportunity to ask about professional dance schools and colleges in the UK and abroad, to ask what our staff look for when they run auditions, to ask about job opportunities and to extend their general knowledge about becoming a professional dancer and dance teacher.

Our high-profile faculty are all ex-professional dancers who are now teaching the next generation of dancers at professional schools while still working in the profession, teaching and choreographing.

Previous participants have succesfully been accepted into vocational programmes at: The Ailey School (NYC), Morea Performing Arts, Elmhurst Ballet School, Central School of Ballet, Ecole de Danse de Genève, Tring Park School, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Sacramento State University (USA), SUNY Purchase College (NY USA) and the English National Ballet School to name a few.

"I had the chance to participate in The Dance Summer School when I was 16 years old. At the period, attending a summer course of this standard meant a lot for me as it gave me a real inspiration to fulfil my dream to become a dancer.

Two years later I joined the Central School of Ballet in London where I also had the chance to dance with the graduate touring company, Ballet Central, and perform the work of various renowned choreographers.

After, completing my vocational training with a first class BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance, I am currently dancing at the Ballet Junior de Geneve.

I highly recommend The Dance Summer School to anyone that loves dancing. It gives you plenty of joy and positive experiences."

"I attended The Dance Summer School in Scotland twice, the last time being during the summer between leaving the Dance School of Scotland and moving down to London to continue my dance training.

Following that summer I spent 3 years at Central School of Ballet graduating in July 2014 with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Dance and Professional Performance. Following my graduation I enrolled on the Professional Graduate Programme with Northern Ballet in Leeds.

I loved attending The Dance Summer School as the surroundings at the venue are beautiful and the teaching is both excellent and enjoyable. I enjoyed all the classes at the Summer School, but the impact for me was that Katie Morea's classes moved my focus to contemporary dance.  As a result during the remainder of my training contemporary has continued to be the genre that I enjoy the most."

A few of many success stories!

"I was originally a pupil at the “Dance School of Scotland” for four years and every year I attended "The Dance Summer School”.  I am now a full time student at “Central School of Ballet” in London.

The summer school was very important to me at that stage of my training.  It gave me the experience of working with a range of excellent teachers and the opportunity to learn different dance styles and techniques.  I also found the advice and information about applying to full time dance schools really helpful, especially when the time came for me to audition myself.

The school’s full programme of classes and activities kept me very busy and I have made many new friends over the years.  I really enjoyed attending the summer school and found that it helped me with my ongoing dance training.  But above all I had great fun."

"After attending The Dance Summer School for 3 consecutive years I continued my training at the Dance School of Scotland. I then worked alongside Scottish Ballet Youth Exchange programme, which was a dance group which performed and trained alongside another group in Singapore for 2 weeks!

The Dance Summer School informed me and educated so much on my further career and prepared me perfectly for my audition life that was to come ahead. The faculty were incredible to work with and I felt so privileged to have been taught by them all."
